How do I use lil’url?

To make a shortcut for a long link, just copy the bloated URL, along with a brief description if so desired, into the form on our home page and 'Cut It Down!'. Or, for even easier shortcut creation, use one of our browser bookmarklets available on the Options page. You'll be presented with your new shortcut, ready for you to copy to wherever you like.

If you've been given a lil’url shortcut (ala http://lilurl.com/?abcdefg) just click on it or type it into your browser's address bar to be taken to the full URL.

Can I skip the transition page?

Absolutely! If you don't want to be bothered by the transition page, which shows you the full URL that the shortcut points to and its description, if one was supplied, you can select to be sent directly to the URL without a stop at lil’url. Go to the Options page to set this preference (Note: this feature requires cookies being enabled in your browser for this site).

lil’url says my URL isn't valid

lil’url does, at best, a cursory check of the URL provided for validity. If the URL is valid even though lil’url claims otherwise, email us the url and we will see if anything can be done.

lil’url will only make shortcut links for HTTP and HTTPS URLs. Make sure that you specify the full URL, including the scheme, e.g. put

http://www.excessivelylongurl.com/that/is/way/…

rather than

www.excessivelylongurl.com/that/is/way/…

lil’url says my shortcut is invalid

If you follow a lilurl.com link and discover that the key is either invalid or not found, then it is likely that the link has been mangled somewhere between its creation and your browser.

If you received the link in an email, check that it hasn’t been broken across two lines. If you entered the link by hand, make sure that you didn’t mistype it. A lil’url key should look like this: http://lilurl.com/?abcdefg, with at least one letter (no numbers) following the ”?”.

If you are sure that the key should to work, then email us the link and we’ll check it out for you.
